The Certification Process for the Professional Church Educator or Youth Worker

As a professional educator and youth worker there are ways you can nurture your gifts, affirm your ministry, and claim your position as a valued person in the teaching ministry of the church. Certification in church education can strengthen your ministry and professional status.

Certification seeks to enhance the quality of church education by

  1. giving denominational recognition to those engaged in the profession and practice of educational ministry;

  2. encouraging high standards of preparation, personal assessment, and intentional growth;

  3. providing the community of faith with recognized leadership in educational ministry; and (4) seeking to incorporate persons into a relationship of support and accountability with other church educators.

Certification is a professional credential for employed ordained and lay church educators. It is offered by the Local Church Ministries and has been available since 1963.
